a. Vapor-resistant adhesive Hi Kate, It’s not necessary to insulate attic walls because it’s an unheated space. The idea is to keep the temperature inside the attic as close as possible to the outside air temperature. It makes much more sense–and cents–to insulate the attic floor, which in effective is insulating the ceiling of the rooms below. That way, you block heated air (and air-conditioned air) from escaping through the ceilings and leaking into the attic. Hope this helps. Good luck!–Joe T.
Fiberglass batts are among the most inexpensive ways to insulate your home, especially when the walls are already open, like in an attic area. The important part about installing fiberglass batts is to pay close attention to how they are installed. One loose corner or tear reduces any hard-earned R-value (which is displayed on each roll) you accrued from the installation.

Live Chat Cellulose has a higher R-value than fiberglass per square inch. Cellulose is made of plant fibers and has some natural qualities that make it less hazardous for a homeowner to install. One small drawback of cellulose is the lack of an innate vapor retarder. Unlike natural rock wool and fiberglass, cellulose can become damaged if left wet for too long. It will require adequate additional insulation between joist spans, in addition to a vapor-retardant material on the insulated side facing the conditioned space. Cellulose is also available in natural fiber selections that allow for soundproofing and a reduced environmental impact.

Model # 565199 The first 3 in. of home insulation you add to a bare ceiling or wall will yield huge savings. Adding another 3 in. will increase energy savings, but not to as great a degree. For charts showing the Department of Energy’s optimal amounts of home insulation to install, check the insulation manufacturers association at naima.org. Their recommendations are based on climate, fuel costs and other factors. Adding more will give you a diminishing return on your investment.

Electrical Panel Upgrades Fiberglass insulation remains the most popular and common insulation for good reason. It’s cost-effective, easy to install, and excels in controlling a building’s energy costs.
Report an Outage Since most homeowners are seeking to insulate previously built structures with drywall, blown-in insulation works best in the interior. A simple hole is cut, insulation is blown in, and the hole is sealed, leaving the room warmer and more efficient, at about $1.00 per square foot. You can also insulate when finishing a wall’s rooms as well — particularly with basements and garages. This is when batt insulation is particularly useful.
